Legal Consultants in Cyprus – Review – EU fines for Carbon Emissions – Completed on 20th June 2010 – Cyprus Legal Consultants

In a bid to pay the European Union’s carbon emission penalty, the Cyprus government will increase all citizens’ electric utility bills.

We have, over recent years, seen our electric bills increase to an all time high and now they are set to rise even further to pay the EU.

At the same time many state funding applications made by businesses for renewable energy resources’ and energy saving products are being turned down.

The public will pay carbon emission fines, yet there are no funds available to help reduce carbon emissions.  Come on Cyprus what is going on? Why are innocent victims paying for all of this? Why are Cyprus Property Investors to be held liable for this?

Cyprus is well behind with regards to carbon emission issues in accordance with the EU and there is no strategic plan in place to help find the funding for renewable energy resources or energy saving products. So will the public pay out for this also? We have yet to see!

Would it not be more beneficial to use the money paid in fines towards the progression of reducing carbon emissions.

How can we possibly achieve this goal if we are getting fined also?  Why do we have to pay these fines when this is a worldwide goal to save the planet?

The public we feel would gladly put their hand in their pockets and hand money over for the resources to reduce carbon emissions but to pay the EU fines is another matter entirely.

Lawyers in Paralimni – Studies- legal alcohol limit – Warn Do Not Drink and Drive completed on 22nd June 2010 Paralimni Lawyers

Cyprus has for many years suffered from drunk driver, and although the police do all they can, it does not deter these thoughtless individuals who continue to put other peoples life’s at risk.

The government are now making many changes in a hope to avoid many sad deaths and make the Cyprus roads safer.

The current legal amount of alcohol consumption allowed whilst if driving is equivalent to 1-1.5 glasses of beer or 1 glass of wine. The new government legislation will cut this by a 3rd and only allow for 0.5 glass of beer as the legal limit for drivers.

The government are also looking at introducing a new points system taken from the Spanish traffic law, which allows Cyprus law officials to deal out 12 points automatically if an offence occurs.  The points can then be earned back over a period of 6 years.  2 points per year provided no other offences take place.

If further offences occur their driving licence will be taken away and a 6 month ban put in place and the driver must also retake their driving test to regain their licence.

It is widely thought that there should be a 0% tolerance to drink driving, no alcohol should be allowed at all whilst driving and a prison sentence given for repeat offenders.

Every time a person under the influence of alcohol gets behind a car wheel, it could be your daughter, son, your spouse or a parent losing their life to a drunk driver.

We therefore hope these changes are enough to deter drunk drivers and we appreciate the government’s efforts, but for those who have been killed by drunk drivers it is definitely not enough.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. IT IS NOT WORTH TAKING AN INNOCENT LIFE.

CYPRUS LAWYERS Review – by Cyprus lawyers A&G Kouzali  - Apostolos Andreas Monastery completed 20th April  2010.

In a bid to help save the famous Apostolos Andreas Monastery, situated in Turkish occupied Northern Cyprus, the Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos II, recently paid a visit to the north for the first time since the Turkish invasion.

The Archbishop spent time at the ancient Greek Christian religious site, in order to evaluate the dire condition the monastery is in. Like most religious sites on the Northern side the monastery has been neglected and mistreated since the Turkish invasion took place and in need of major renovation.

The reason for the Archbishops trip was to try and help hurry along the much needed renovation work, not only on the Apostolos Andreas Monastery but also other religious sites that are crumbling away.  This is sacrilegious and help really is needed to restore these ancient sites before they are no more.

It was reported that the Archbishop is mostly concern with the market sellers who will need to remove their stalls situated around the monastery, before any kind of development can proceed.

We pray that the Turkish community will respect the Archbishops wishes and let work begin on saving these religious sites that are so important to the Greek religion.

We offer our full support for the restoration of all religious sites on the Turkish Occupied Northern Cyprus and we also support the use and restoration of the Great Agia Sophia church in Istanbul Turkey.

Kourio is one from the archaeological spaces of Cyprus. It is found in the province of Limassol near the village Erimi. In the antiquity, Kourio was one of the richest and more powerful 10 kingdoms of Cyprus. According to Erodotos it was founded by the ancient residents.

The ancient city owes its name to Koureas, the son of the fabulous king Kinyras. The kingdom of Kourio knew the more important cultural acne during Hellenistic period, when entire the island was included in the Macedonian state after the spread from Great Alexander. The more important architectural antiquities of the city are reduced in this season.

The integration of Cyprus in the Roman Empire is signalled by some earthquakes which caused enough damage in the ancient city. The destruction of city became on the 7th century from the Arabs. The more important monuments of ancient city of Kourio that are saved today are the Theatre, the Market, the Gallery, the Stage and the Aqueduct.

Lawyers in Cyprus – Review Workings of SIPP – completed on 1st February 2010.

SINGLE LIFE Self Invested Personal Pension seems to be a safer and more beneficial method of investing in the future.  Unlike other forms of pension, with the SIPP you have full control over what you decide to do with your money, within the limits of the Government rules.

The SIPP is like a tax free bubble, anything within the SIPP bubble is not liable for income tax, capital gains tax or inheritance tax.  The SIPP allows you to invest in income generating tangible assets such as over seas buy-to-let property (commercial property only within the UK), wine and art.  It allows you to buy stock market shares and offshore bonds.  All profit generated from these assets will then go into a SIPP bank account and is tax free.   A percentage of the income generated cash can be drawn from SIPP bank account in accordance to government rules.

Unlike ordinary pensions, investments under the SIPP actually belong to you, they are in no threat should the company you have employed go in to administration.  The age limit for SIPP is 55-75 years and the SIPP should be wound up at the age of 75. If a person should pass away any assets under the SIPP must be sold within a two year period so as not in breach of the Inland Revenue and any liable taxation.

MULTI LIFE Self Invested Personal Pension is also a beneficial option relating to pension investments.  This is similar to the above, except it caters for more than one person.   Up to twelve may invest in a multi life SIPP.  This can be more advantageous as funds are combined giving the options to invest in assets of a higher level.  Under this scheme assets can only be sold if all parties are in agreement.  For example if a property has been brought and one party wants out of the contract all parties have to agree otherwise the property can not be sold.

There are no age limitations under the multi life SIPP and should one party pass away any assets do not have to be sold.  They will be passed on to a beneficiary of who will then decide what to do with his/her share.

There seems to be so many more benefits to Single Life SIPP and Multi Life SIPP. Do you believe this is the way forward for a safe investment for your future? Let us know what you think.

Lawyers in Famagusta – review – Haiti earthquake- completed on 8th February 2010.

Haiti suffered a catastrophic disaster when an earthquake hit causing heartbreaking results.

The death toll is said be in the region of 200,000 along with thousands more badly injured.  Around 80,000 plus of these bodies are being buried in mass graves as there is no time for funerals to take place.

1 million Haiti nationals have been left homeless due to many buildings collapsing. This includes the house owned by the President of Haiti.  The President is reported to be safe and well.  Many of the streets are now blocked with concrete from the collapsed buildings.

It has been reported that a hospital and a church also collapsed in the earthquake and many individuals are still missing.  Many family and friends are still looking for their loved ones.

The central tower at the Haiti airport collapsed, making it near impossible for relief supplies getting through to Haiti’s capital.

Haiti is said to be the poorest country in the world and the earthquake just adds insult to injury. Haiti also suffered from Hurricane Jeanne in 2004 and previously Hurricane Georges in 1998.

Is there no rest for this country? Most of the Haiti nationals already live in poverty and it doesn’t stop there.  The earthquake forced the trees standing on the hilltops to be stripped and used for required sources so the hill tops now stand bear and also stand prey to landslides should serious rain prevail.

Cyprus has donated €100,000 to help victims of the earthquake and a medical team have been sent to offer medical care and medicine.

This is a very sad time for Haiti yet again and there are no words to describe what has been forced on this poor country. All we can do now is help in any way we can as individual people of Cyprus.

We urge all Cyprus people to contact the CYPRUS RED CROSS in the first instance for means of donating money.

Lawyers in Cyprus – Analyzes – Value Holidays – 11th February 2010.

We have been analyzing value for money holiday destinations and what changes have took place in the previous year.

Hungry is still one of the top favourites offering cheap holidays, food and drinks. Spain still remains one of the cheapest places to holiday, in terms of what you can buy with the Euro.

Turkey on the other hand has fallen from top of the lists due to a tremendous rise in prices.  This destination has been a long time favourite offering value for money but this is no longer the case for holiday makers.

Turkey is introducing new development in to the country with new roads and a new airport, so even though quality will be of a higher standard will holiday makers pay more than what they will spend in Hungry or Spain where quantity is the attraction.

Turkey is named European Culture Capital for 2010 this should definitely bring in tourist regardless of the price rise.  It is very hard to say what will happen in 2010, it really is a waiting game. We will wait and see the outcome?

A&G Kouzali Lawyers in Cyprus –
